Beginner-Friendly SEO Training Program

Objective:

Train new team members with minimal SEO knowledge to develop a strong understanding of SEO fundamentals and gain confidence in managing small, supervised tasks for existing clients.


Phase 1: Foundation Building (Days 1-3)

Day 1: Introduction to SEO

  • Objective: Introduce SEO concepts and tools.
  1. Topics:
    • What is SEO, and why is it important?
    • Key components: On-page SEO, Off-page SEO, Technical SEO, Local SEO.
    • Understanding search engines: Crawling, indexing, and ranking.
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Explore an existing client’s website and identify visible SEO elements (e.g., meta titles, meta descriptions, headings).
    • Open a Google Business Profile and review basic information like NAP (Name, Address, Phone).

Day 2: On-Page SEO Basics

  • Objective: Learn and practice on-page SEO principles.
  1. Topics:
    • Keyword research: How to identify relevant keywords using Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest.
    • On-page optimization: Meta titles, descriptions, headers, and keyword placement.
    • Basics of content optimization: Readability, keyword usage, and internal links.
    • Website Audit and Google Business Profile Audit
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Optimize a mock webpage:
      • Write a meta title and description.
      • Suggest improvements to headers and content flow.

Day 3: Off-Page SEO Basics

  • Objective: Learn and practice on-page SEO principles.
  1. Topics:
    • What is Off-Page SEO?
    • Activities outside the website to improve rankings (e.g., backlinks, social sharing).
    • Type of Backlinks
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Analyze your website’s backlink profile.
    • Identify competitor backlink strategies.
    • Find opportunities for guest blogging and partnerships.

Day 4: Introduction to Google Business Profile

  • Objective: Understand how GBP impacts local SEO and client visibility.
  1. Topics:
    • Overview of Google Business Profile features: Business categories, services, photos, and reviews.
    • Importance of NAP consistency and how to audit GBP information.
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Analyze an existing GBP for missing or outdated information.
    • Create a draft for a Google Post (e.g., promotion, update, or event).

Phase 2: Guided Application (Days 4-6)

Day 5: Technical SEO Basics

  • Objective: Introduce basic technical SEO concepts and tools.
  1. Topics:
    • What is technical SEO? Key aspects like site speed, mobile-friendliness, and crawlability.
    • Tools for audits: Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, PageSpeed Insights.
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Use Google PageSpeed Insights to test a client website’s speed and identify optimization suggestions.
    • Identify 3 broken links or technical issues on a sample website.

Day 6: Local SEO & Review Management

  • Objective: Dive deeper into local SEO tasks and client review management.
  1. Topics:
    • Optimizing GBP categories, descriptions, and photos.
    • Writing effective responses to positive and negative reviews.
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Draft responses for 2-3 client reviews (positive and negative).
    • Suggest GBP updates, such as adding photos or refining descriptions, for an existing profile.

Day 7: Analytics and Reporting

  • Objective: Teach trainees how to analyze performance and create reports.
  1. Topics:
    • Tracking SEO performance: Website metrics (organic traffic, bounce rate) and GBP metrics (profile views, actions).
    • Basics of SEO reporting: What to include and how to present it.
  2. Hands-On Task:
    • Review data from a real client’s Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
    • Create a simplified SEO report template with key metrics and insights.

Phase 3: Supervised Client Contributions (Day 7 and Beyond)

Day 8: Real-World Application

  • Objective: Begin supervised contributions to existing client work.
  1. Tasks:
    • Conduct a supervised SEO audit for a client’s website or GBP.
    • Implement low-risk updates, such as:
      • Optimizing meta titles and descriptions for a few pages.
      • Updating outdated information in a client’s GBP.
    • Draft a Google Post for review by a senior team member.
